Introducing Avatars & Blog Enhancements!!

AVATARS!

Yes, we heard you!!! We've heard those calls to further personalize the forum and allow members to have an avatar appear when they post. Until recently we've resisted the idea for a number of reasons; the primary being members could not upload images and cross linking slows down page loading because the website has to go out and get the image.

Well now everyone has the ability to create their own personal gallery on the website and post their own member blogs. We thought "What better way to encourage the use of these features!!"

You'll notice both the forum and blog now show avatars for the poster and the those who reply. Clicking on the photo will bring up a full size version without taking you away from the page! The arrows below the picture will allow you to scroll through the Avatars of other members. Now you can get a visual of who is posting... put a face to a name... get a glimpse of who they are and maybe find out if it's someone you know or have seen... or someone you WILL know the next time you see them.

The avatar is actually your profile picture, and while you can still remotely link, we suggest you create your personal gallery and upload an image for your profile. Once uploaded you'll see an icon below the image to set it as your profile picture. You can also use the regular photo gallery the same way. Simply search for your member number and use the same icon.

BLOGS!

To further enhance the blog module we've given members the ability to control the blog a little more. The Author can now lock their blog, and not allow comments (they will have to unlock it to edit it too, but they can prevent members from posting to it!). Members can also delete posts from other members (not admins or moderators) if they don't like them. The blog is yours!!! You can also delete a blog once it's been replied to (the only caveat is you have to delete the replies first - if there are any). Yes, we know there are some limitations here, but they were necessary. We hope you understand.

You can also easily link images from your member gallery into you blog! In the post Format: Options look for the () Icon. You can also post YouTube Videos in your blog using the() icon.

When reading a blog, at the very top to the right you'll see a few more icons and a list of websites you can share the blog on. If you find a member's post interesting share it on your favorite website or email it to a friend. You can also search for blogs by specific players and get a list of blogs by date.

Comments, questions and bug reports are always welcome!

Enjoy everyone!

Bob Swauger
CPA C13 Web Admin

2009 Morrison Memorial Heart & Stroke
8-Ball Tournament

What a year!!! Since the start of this tournament in 1997 when we raised $1,340.00 I always believed the day would come when we would break the $10,000.00 mark -- this year we did it! Everyone says that we have achieved so much for the Heart and Stroke Foundation because of what we, the organizers do. But that isn’t true. We can organize a tournament until the cows come home but if you don’t participate then we have just thrown a party the no one came to. This is your achievement as well as ours. Each and every one of you who participated in the tournament this year as well as in years past need to realize and understand that these dollar amounts represent lives saved because of the research, that money like this helps to fund. This year it helped to save my own life. You are an amazing group of people. Thank you seems so inadequate and yet it is all I can say.

This year we raised $10,763.00. This brings our 13 year total to $78,041.92. We have also decided to help out a fellow pool player, Terry Hughes, Walkerton. Terry has recently suffered a stroke and has just been released from the hospital. Terry is self employed and has limited resources until he is able to get back to work. We are pleased to present Terry with $1,000.00 from this year’s tournament. On behalf of the pool players, we hope this helps get you back on your feet.

Here is how we did it this year:
It all started when I asked the Power Workers Union if they could help out our cause and the said yes with a cheque for $3,000.00
Last year Keith Wiedmeyer told me that Guelph was going to have a surprise for me at our next tournament. He held true to his word and he and Cherylee Fessenden held 50/50 draws in Guelph and presented $1,010.00 to us on behalf of the pool players of Guelph.
The crew from Brampton once again came in with a wad of cash for us to the tune of $880.00.
Registration of all 3 divisions raised $1,910.00
Calcutta on all 3 divisions raised $510.00
5 Fifty-Fifty draws were held rendering $1,090.00
The winners of these draws are:
Norm Frieburger, Mount Forest won Friday nights draw and he donated $50.00 back.
Chris Cardinale, Walkerton, won the first draw on Saturday.
Steve Greig, Orangeville, won the second draw on Saturday and he donated $100.00 of his winnings back.
The 3rd draw on Saturday was unclaimed so the entire amount was donated.
Peggy Groenveld, waitress extraordinaire, won Sunday’s draw.
Again we had some items donated that we raffled off raising $245.00.
Mike White, Hanover, donated a cue. This was won by James Wilson, Hanover, who just happened to be Mike’s partner in the tournament.
John and I donated a few items for raffle. The black and white picture of Paul Newman in “The Hustler” was won by Jen Canning, Guelph. The back pack was won by Don Worthington, Paisley. The color picture of the 8-ball in a sea of 8-balls was won by Steve O’Rourke, Walkerton. The Watch and 2 shirts where donated by Wayne and Jane Peachman and won by Steve Bigger, Orangeville. There was a beautiful hand made white cedar chest made by Jack Crozier. Jack sold tickets and presented us with $750.00. The winner of this cedar chest was Doc Pratt, Kincardine. Congratulations to all.
Renee Colley, Toronto, donated a black leather CPA jacket. We ran a silent auction on it. I put down the first bid because I really wanted the jacket. People kept bidding me up – big surprise there. My husband was the biggest culprit he seems to enjoy spending my money. Finally, Dave Leaning, Kincardine came into the bar and saw the jacket. I knew I was in trouble when Dave put it on and it looked pretty darn good. He put a bid in on it of $160.00 beating my $150.00 bid. It was late Sunday afternoon and we had to close off the bidding so I decided to let Dave have it. Dave paid the $160.00 which of course was donated. Then he asked me if I really wanted the jacket. I said yes but it was okay I wanted him to have it and enjoy it. That is when he handed it too me and said it was mine. Classy move Dave, I will think of your generous nature every time I put it on. Thanks to Renee for donating it and thanks to Dave for the wonderful surprise.
Mike Kim Sr. along with his family and staff did a great job of keeping us all housed, fed and watered. Mike Kim Sr. dug deep again this year and donated $600.00 to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. I am deeply grateful for without your help this would not be possible.
As the prize money was awarded the generosity kept flowing. Mitch Paige and Steve Shaw bought 2 shirts for $220.00. Those are expensive shirts considering they were being sold for $30.00 each. Matt Friel and Keith Wiedmeyer donated $50.00
There are so many other donations that came in they truly are too numerous to list. It is all appreciated and every penny contributes to the amazing total.
I would like to acknowledge and thank Montgomery Ford for their continuing support. Every year they donate the trophies. You guys rock.

A huge thank you for all of the help and support goes to Allison Byles, Gloria Bond, Judith Byles, Carla Labombard and Jane Peachman for your outstanding Calcutta management. Thanks to Don Worthington and Wayne Peachman for working the boards all weekend. Thank you to Jenn Canning for selling so many 50/50 tickets – next year we will organize the whole body shot thing. A big thank you to my husband John Labombard and to Mike White for walking around with my big yellow happy face bucket and selling even more 50/50 tickets. You all did a fantastic job.
Last but certainly not least, thank you to Lindsay Dobson for donating 4 singles qualifier boards. Our intention was to try and run them during the tournament but that just didn’t work out. So what we are going to do is some Saturday in the near future we are going to run them out of the Sutton Park Inn. Any players who signed up for them at the tournament will get the first chance at filling the board after that I will send out notification to all players so we can fill them up and run them. The cost will be $20.00 and it will be donated to The Heart and Stroke Foundation. I will keep you posted as soon as we figure out all of the details.

Visit our website www.heartnstroke.ca there will be pictures of this years winners, feel free to drop me a line anytime at rackem@bmts.com. I would love to hear from you.
That’s year 13 on the books. Your dedication and commitment to the Heart & Stroke Foundation has indeed made life better for many. I am very proud to be a part of the CPA community and I look forward to seeing you all again next year.

God Bless
Barbara Labombard
Congratulations to the 2009 Winners

A Division

1st Place: Mitch Paige & Steve Shaw, Orangeville, (Calcutta Winner – Rob Thorne, Walkerton)
2nd Place: Dan Cameron, Tiverton & Bob McCulloch, Mount Forest (Calcutta Winner Dennis Lavoie, Kincardine)
3rd Place: Keith Wiedmeyer, Guelph & Matt Friel, Listowel (Calcutta Winner – John Labombard)

B Division

1st Place: Chris Knox & George Voisin, Walkerton (Calcutta Winner – Mike White)
2nd Place: Rhett Lawson & Steve Manuel (Calcutta Winner – Mike White)
3rd Place: Bill Holland & Scott Robertson, Harriston (Calcutta Winner – they bought themselves)

C Division

1st Place: Les Small & Brad Ellis, Mount Forest (Calcutta Winner – they bought themselves)
2nd Place: Alex Szucs & Joe Stokeman, Guelph (Calcutta Winner – they bought themselves)
3rd Place: Jason Williams & Sheila Storey (Calcutta Winner – they bought themselves)
